Founder, Judo Program Head Coach and Jiu-Jitsu Program Coach
(Judo Black Belt, Aikido Black Belt and Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt)

Eric began his martial arts journey as a university freshman, dedicating 8–10 hours a week to training in Aikido.  After graduation, Eric discovered his true calling in Judo, joining the Burnaby Judo Club in 2002 under the mentorship of the late Sensei Bob Orescanin, the honorary Head Sensei of Doka Judo Jiu-Jitsu Club. From that point on, Eric trained diligently in both Aikido and Judo, eventually earning black belts in both disciplines — a testament to his dedication, discipline, and technical skill.

Driven by a never-ending desire to broaden his knowledge, Eric added Jiu-Jitsu to his repertoire in 2023, training at GFTeam Canada.  He earned his blue belt the following year and continues to train 3–4 times per week, sharpening his technique and deepening his understanding of grappling arts.

In recent years, Eric has found joy and purpose in coaching, bringing together elements from Aikido, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu to help students grow both on and off the mats. Those around him often note the passionate glow on his face when he talks about the beauty of Judo and Jiu-Jitsu.

In 2025, Eric’s long-held dream became reality with the founding of Doka Judo Jiu-Jitsu Academy — a welcoming home for practitioners of Judo and Jiu-Jitsu to train, grow, and build community. The academy reflects Eric’s vision: a fusion of tradition and innovation, where Judo and Jiu-Jitsu thrive together in harmony.

Eric is a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certified Judo Dojo Instructor.
